JA More Than Money – Session 1
Key Concepts Covered: Earning, Saving, and Spending
Introduction of Earn, Save, Spend Poster (Side 1)
Discuss the concepts of earning, saving, and spending using the Earn, Save, Spend poster. Students should have their materials ready, as each teacher was provided with the file to print. If materials are not available, feel free to use the ones included in the kit.
(I personally engage with students by asking how they earn, save, and spend their money to encourage participation.)
Vocabulary Flash Cards
Display the vocabulary flash cards throughout the session, following the Volunteer Guide instructions.
Character Introduction
Introduce the characters from the flyers: Ernie the Earner, Super Saver, and Sir Spend-a-lot.
(I like to ask students which character they relate to most.)
Earn, Save, Spend Poster (Side 2) and Interactive Activity
Display Side 2 of the Earn, Save, Spend poster.
Use colored sticky notes or simply call on students to share the following:
BLUE: Something they have spent money on recently.
GREEN: A job they would like to do now or in the future to earn money.
YELLOW: Something they would like to save money for.
Bank Register Explanation
Introduce the Bank Register and ask the teacher to play the "How to Fill in Your Money Tracker" instructional video if available. If the video is not accessible, please use the Money Tracker Poster to explain the process.
Display the Money Tracker Poster and remember NOT to write on it.
Bingo Game Instructions
Explain the Bingo game using the standard rules (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal to win).
Ask the teacher to provide chips or markers for the students to cover spaces on the bingo cards.
IMPORTANT: Ask students NOT to write on the Bingo cards.
Bookmarks are for the Bingo winners. (Feel free to bring small prizes such as lollipops or branded company items if you wish. You will need a maximum of 30/classroom)
Bingo Card Actions (Page 19)
Follow the actions listed on page 19 of the Volunteer Guide to conduct the Bingo game.
Session Review
Allow time at the end of the session to review key concepts learned and engage students in a brief recap discussion.
Please ensure all materials are collected and returned to Claudia Arroyo before leaving the school.
Thank you for your commitment to making this a fun and educational experience for the students!
